Protocol Principles

To better ensure that the Protocol achieves its objective of generating mutual benefit, a set of business principles is expected to guide the MNC’s engagement with the BoP community. These business principles are stated at the beginning of the Protocol in the form of Operating Guidelines and a Code of Conduct.

The original Protocol document, developed and written in 2004 & 2005 and later field tested in Kenya and in India. There are currently two ways to read the Protocol:

Protocol Field Guide

Based on the field experiences of the Protocol Pilot team in Kenya, this field guide includes useful tools, lessons and anecdotes from implementing the BoP Protocol in the field. A living document, the Protocol Field Guide will incorporate lessons from current and future Protocol projects.
